Rustic and chic accents were practically made for the backyard, as their bucolic feel suited a natural environment. And if you want to add an instant rustic ambiance and class to your garden, the quickest way to do this is to add rustic outdoor lighting with light strings. Immediately, this may seem rather impertinent. You can imagine tiki plastic garlands or off-season Christmas lights.
But the lights in the courtyard can provide subtle mood lighting while maintaining a rustic chic look. You simply need to know the right light style to use, which we will see below.
Rustic exposed bulbs
An instant way to get a rustic chic look is to opt for a classic style of exposed filament bulb, like the rustic lighting of the photo above. Old style bulbs give off an old appearance. But they still add a lot of ambient lighting, thanks to the softer glow of their light source compared to some types of LEDs.
You can see on the picture above how good the classic bulbs are when used as outdoor string lighting. You can easily hang them from the trees to juxtapose natural plant life with the industrial-style light source. They could also look great on food courts or patios to illuminate socializing places.
Combination of light types
Another idea for rustic lighting is to choose an apparent bulb style combined with more traditional string lighting. You can see on the picture above how the idea was used to the maximum by attaching bulbs to the tree. Then, this source of light is accentuated by small light garlands around the branches themselves. All style leads to a feeling of enchanted forest.
This idea works best with small light garlands of white or cold color such as green. More vibrant colors like multicolored styles, red or orange may seem too seasonal, as if they belonged to a Christmas tree. But the white lights and cool colors will give a timeless sense of cleanness to your outdoor rustic accent lighting.
Use rustic accents
You can also combine your outdoor lighting with other rustic-inspired accent elements. The wire birdcages in the picture above are an example. The white garlands around the tree illuminate the area beautifully. And the lighting of the tree draws attention to the rustic accent of nearby hanging bird cages.
Another classic idea that fits in with rustic chic styles is an old-fashioned lantern. These can be hung beside light garlands or be their own source of light. Rustic lighting lanterns, like flameless candles, are also popular for rustic and outdoor rustic styles. These are well suited for hanging or table settings.
Combine natural elements and rustic lighting
Another idea is to combine rustic lighting sources with natural accents. An example is the globe lights hanging with tea candles in the photo above. Candles are perfect for adding an instant classic appeal and the globe design shows them well. And hanging these globe globes to a natural garland pattern is a stylish way to attract the rustic appeal of natural textures.
You can do it in different ways. You can go with a natural arch and hang the globe lights from above, as in the picture. Such lights could be placed in natural garlands on a table. Or you can hang lights like these along a garland.
Something like that would work especially well for an outdoor wedding. And if you have fire problems, you can still use LED tealights.
Hanging rustic lighting near natural wood
The photo above shows what beautiful light bulbs look like when hung on a rustic wood element, like a fence. Old style bulbs and lightly aged wood combine for a deliciously bucolic and classic look. If you can, it can also be helpful to include an emphasis of nearby plant life to further add to the rustic and natural look.
You can also use this idea in different ways. For example, you can hang exposed bulbs like these outside a barn style shed. You can also hang light garlands over a distressed wood patio table, in trouble. This idea allows creativity and personal inspiration.
